One picture, of an ordinary snapshot from the north of France left a strong impression on him. It was a snapshot of a man standing alone on top of a cliff. The image never faded, so he went on a trip to Normandy to find out why. Normandy did not welcome him, but instead rejected him. After working as a commercial photographer for 18 years, he asked himself, "What is my photography?" In search of an answer, he found himself attracted to conveying his inner emotions through the landscapes of Normandy. He said, "I have painted details of light on the canvas of my heart with a monochromatic medium" which resulted in a book titled: "Les Toiles En Blanc Et Noir" (Black and White Canvas) His series of works from "Les Toiles En Blanc Et Noir" were exhibited in Amsterdam, Paris and Tokyo, and went on to win many prestigious awards internationally. Kimio Shimizu was born in Tokyo, Japan and studied Photography at Japan University. He founded Studio Pinhole and became a freelance photographer after assisting Mitsuo Soki for a couple of years. His clients include: Coca-Cola, Canon, Dupont, Honda, Kodak, Lufthansa, Mitsubishi, Nestle, Northwest Airlines, Suzuki, Toyota, Sony and Yamaha, to name a few. Currently, he lives outside of Tokyo and enjoys living near the sea.
