Carl Posey, a California native and student of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco found himself shooting for local magazines and exhibiting in San Francisco's Bay Area renowned galleries. After his first assignment for Spin Magazine in New York City, he moved there a year later. His first week in the Big Apple, landed him a shoot with Warner Music Group's artist, Del the FunkyHomoSapien. Carl was chosen to be the primary photographer for New York's Hot 97 Music Radio subway billboard campaign. These series of photographs were iconic portraits of artists like L.L. Cool J., Mary J. Blige, The Fugees, Li'l Kim, Busta Rhymes, and many more. Carl, who has been shooting professionally for more than a decade, has made a huge mark in the history of hip-hop photography. His well-known portrait of Biggie Smalls (taken in front of Biggie's mother's Brookyln home) has been published in countless magazines and books. Carl exhibited his collection "The Black Male" at The Whitney Museum of Art. and he has shot advertising campaigns for Jaguar, Seagrams' Captain Morgan, AT&T, Reebok, Royal Sneakers, Lugz, Footlocker, Columbia Records, Def Jam Records, Sony, LaFace and Jive. Posey's portraits have been featured in The L.A. Times Magazine, Newsweek, The San Francisco Bay Guardian, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Interview, Forbes Magazine, The New Yorker, Fortune and more. Carl is also proud to have shot a campaign for the United Negro College Fund in 2001. This campaign received an image award for non-profit orgazination advertising in England.
